The Impact of Outdoor Advertising Billboards on Road Traffic Safety

This article presents road traffic accidents that occurred on the street and road network of Yerevan. Advertising billboards, which are placed above or on the edge of the roadway, are also considered as factors distracting the driver’s attention. Although some advertising billboards serve as useful sources of information, they often hinder and disrupt the safe movement of vehicles. The circumstance of the distraction of the driver and its impact on the increase of the accident occurrence probability has been studied. The accident occurrence probability has been calculated using the Monte Carlo method. The positive and negative impacts of advertising billboards have been presented.
