Abstract

This paper presents the results of laboratory investigations conducted to evaluate the effect of incorporating basalt fibers and cement into Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) mixtures obtained during the rehabilitation of asphalt concrete pavements. It was established that, from the standpoint of improving the tensile strength characteristics of the FDR mixture, the optimal parameters are a basalt fiber content of 0.4% and a fiber length of 20 mm. The study recorded an increase in the tensile strength limit of the mixture compared with the initial mixture as a result of introducing cement alone, as well as a further increase in tensile strength compared with specimens stabilized only with cement when cement and basalt fibers were incorporated jointly. In comparison with the corresponding effects on the compressive strength limit of the specimens, it was determined that both the incorporation of cement alone and the combined incorporation of cement and basalt fibers exert a more significant influence on the improvement of the tensile strength characteristics of the FDR mixture than on its compressive strength characteristics.
