The article presents the results of a study on traffic flow patterns on interstate highways within and near residential areas. According to the results of the research, graphs of the traffic speed of automobiles depending on the length of the settlements and at different distances from the edge of the roadway to the structures were constructed. These studies have made it possible to determine the distances at which cars change their driving mode, and the nature of this change on the approaches to settlements and after their departure. The article also studied and confirmed the pattern of changes in the intervals between cars, which is an important process for assessing road safety within the boundaries of settlements.
