Abstract

The article examines the architectural image of the city of Yerevan formed in 1932-55, which is based on the works of the followers of the principles of the famous architect Alexander Tamanyan. The subject of the study is different types of buildings of that period: public, educational, industrial and residential. The purpose of the work is to identify features that played a significant role in the formation of the stylistic direction of this stage, based on the analysis of the volumetric-spatial composition and artistic decoration of urban-planning important structures that formed during this period. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that, through a comprehensive analysis, an attempt made to reveal the basic principle of the organization of squares and streets of Yerevan in 1932-55, formed by a combination of classical laws with the means of artistic expressiveness of national architecture. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the architecture of the city of Yerevan in 1932-55 developed according to the methods established (founded) by Tamanyan. Thanks to this, the established stylistic direction shaped the architectural appearance (face) of Yerevan, giving the city artistic unity and integrity.
