The Nubarashen cemetery of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), was built in 1982 in a landslide zone, near the Yerevan deep fault and the Djrvezh active fault, without the necessary preparation of the foundation of the cemetery. The destruction of stocks of expired pesticides in the Nubarashen landfill and the purification of territories contaminated with persistent organic pollutants is a task of ecological security for the country. To exclude secondary pollution of the environment when transporting POPs for disposal, it is necessary to choose safe methods of disposal of POPs on site in the Nubarashen cemetery. In this work, for the first time, an overview of modern approaches and possibilities of POPs utilization by safe, effective methods is presented in order to propose for solving the problem of Nubarashen landfill. The proposed method of high-temperature burning of expired POPs on site, as an alternative, the innovative SCWO technology is proposed for the utilization of POPs. Biological method of bioremediation in situ is proposed for the processing of contaminated soils of Nubarashen burial ground.
