In many countries, recent decades have been characterized by urban expansion and development, as well as an increasing number of natural and man-made disasters. In connection with the noted trends, the task of placing part of urban structures for various purposes underground, as well as the design and operation of these facilities in emergency situations, has become urgent. The purpose of this work is to analyze the possibility of using urban underground territories in Yerevan as civil protection facilities. During the analysis, a method was proposed for assessing the effective use of underground territories using environmental and economic parameters, and methods for bringing their protective properties to a level that meets the requirements of the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations. A mathematical dependence of the used volume of an underground territory on the number of people to be sheltered and the required ventilation was revealed. The research material can demonstrate the economic efficiency of using urban underground territories as dual-use facilities.
