Abstract

The air quality of Yerevan, especially during the last five years, is declining. According to the data of the “Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center” of the Ministry of the Environment of Armenia, the main reason for the decline in air quality is the increase in the amount of dust in the air. The amount of dust in the air of Yerevan, especially during the summer tourist season, has become problematic, harming the economy and healthcare. In the work, a comparative analysis of the measurements provided on the website of the “Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center” of the Ministry of Environment of Armenia was carried out and a conclusion was made that the amounts of dust caused by transport and transboundary pollution in the air are not decisive. The main source of dust in the city is the 39 stone and sand processing mines, industrial facilities and construction in the administrative area of the city, bypassing the requirements of the RA Law “On Atmospheric Air Protection”.
